Playlist Mix #56

Finn Riggins

Show 56 rolls around in a timely Monday fashion. Timely in the sense that it matches up with last Monday’s podcast release, albeit a day off the calendar. If you missed it during the week as well the podcast release schedule for the remainder of 2009 has been posted, at long last.

We’re still on the look out to get 100 fans via Facebook – think you can help? Pop along to the Playlist Mix Podcast Facebook page and help us on our way to 100. When we get there we’re gonna give away a couple of the albums that have been stacking up on the desk over the summer months (including a huge box of discs from Irish and UK acts).

If you want to make a submission for the 57th podcast, you’ve got until midnight this coming Thursday night to do so. You can submit your tracks via email to podcast [at] playlistmix [dot] com, or use the Soundcloud Dropbox to send us on a track. If you’re emailing in, don’t forget to include your MySpace / Bebo / Facebook / iTunes URL (whatever you’ve got), a brief biography and of course your music in MP3 format (WMA’s won’t be accepted, sorry Windows Media lovers).

On with the mix for this week…

Don’t forget too that for updates during the week you can keep your eyes on the Playlist Mix on Twitter.

Playlist Mix #48

Playlist Mix 48 featuring The Very Most

The first podcast for March brings with it six more tracks, five free downloads, four more featured acts, three promo videos, two new feeds and one tired host. Not a band countdown for tonight’s show, all things considered. With recent moves from Google to shake up the FeedBurner delivery of feeds I’ve wound up changing the feeds for the podcast, introducing a new feed for the show audio only, and one for shows and posts combined.

If you’ve also been following the blog during the week you’ll have picked up on the free mp3 giveaways, five published so far with another 41 to come as PlaylistMix.com and CubikMusik.com give away an MP3 download a day for the run of lent. Sure lent is 40 days and 40 nights but by the calendar it’s 46 days so you’ll get 46 podsafe downloads right up to Easter. Sure why not! Check out today’s download from Low Sea Roar or check the downloads so far in the series.

Music this week comes from

  1. Hurt – ‘Pandora’
  2. Froud – ‘Nostalgia’
  3. The Very Most – ‘April Is The Kindest Month’
  4. Wayne Brennan – ‘Please, Please’
  5. The Simple Pleasure – ‘The Brave and The Free’
  6. Heritage Centre – ‘You Are Something’

The four featured bands for March 2009 are Heritage Centre, The Very Most (both featured this week), The Funeral Suits and Serial Twin – more music from them next week. Check out this week’s tracks on mix.playlistmix.com, follow the podcast on Twitter or drop an email to podcast@playlistmix.com to get in touch.

Hertiage Centre Release ‘The City, The Tree & The Fox’

Heritage Centre, The City, The Tree & The Fox

Heritage Centre, who were featured on Playlist Mix 46, have released ‘The City, The Tree & The Fox’ to the public, the EP release hitting shops and the web on Friday gone.

This is a great release. The music is totally infectious with non of your indie-pop crap. It makes for great listening and great repeat-listening at that as well. The launch gig in Whelan’s in Dublin was a sell-out and the band go on to play Dolan’s in Limerick this Friday night. ‘You Are Something’ makes for a great start and the quality of performance and writing doesn’t dip at all throughout with ‘Death By Science’, the TV-friendly ‘Losing Touch’, the much edgier ‘Stars’, ‘Somehow I Feel Cheated’ and ‘Your Leaders are Dead’ all on the cards. Consider them firmly chalked down on the list of Irish bands to see in action this year.

Debut EP? More please!

Check out Playlist Mix 46 here or download the MP3 directly to hear them for yourself.

You can also visit the Heritage Centre MySpace or check DownloadMusic.ie for some downloads and support the band!

Playlist Mix 46

Playlist Mix 46 featuring Heritage Centre

Back for the third podcast of the month, the 46th Playlist Mix lands with a nice smattering of Irish acts for your listening pleasure. This week I’ve been listening to a host of Irish acts with new releases – Parhelia have just released their ‘Shifting Sands’ album and there’s a track from that while Heritage Centre release ‘The City, The Tree & The Fox’ this coming weekend, so there’s an introduction to that EP as well. It’s also been a busy week in many regards around PlaylistMix.com as more introductions to the site are made including the Playlist Mix Tape giving you access to the month’s current listening selection. Head over to mix.playlistmix.com or check the ‘Mix’ link from the menu for tracks from shows 44 and 45 along with this week’s selection.

Don’t forget our four featured bands as well, all of whom I’ve been speaking to during the week. You’ve got Homespun [the.band], Pavesi, The Unravelling and The Lions Mane all part of this month’s featured acts.

This week’s mix features

  1. Heritage Centre – ‘Losing Touch’
  2. Saving J – ‘Indication Street’
  3. JC Brooks & The Uptown Sound – ‘How To Stop Loving Someone Who Stopped Loving You’
  4. On The Cinnamon – ‘Hide & Seek’
  5. Serial Twin – ‘Things That I Fear’
  6. Parhelia – ‘Our Ship Has Sailed’

If you would like to submit tracks for shows 47 / 48 then drop me a line before midweek with your MP3s. You can send everything to podcast@playlistmix.com or look up the podcast on Twitter – it’s open pretty much most hours of the day and is rapidly becoming the quickest way to get in touch (near-immediate response assured).

Until next week and show 47,

Enjoy.
