Homespun

Homespun

Homespun(tb – for legal reasons seemingly) are a cracking, high-energy three-piece from Rhyl in north Wales. Their debut offering of SexReady Mind Control makes for some great no-frills punked-up indie listening and they’ve followed it up this year with the EP release of 100 Nations (also to be found on SexReady Mind Control).

Comprising Terry Foster (Guitar / Vox), Damien Sayell (Bass) and Tony Foster (Drums), the band started out back in the late 90s, changed name (slightly), changed lineup (slightly) and are currently rocking out on dPulse Records following the release of SexReady Mind Control last August (2008). You can grab your copy of the album here on iTunes.

Homespun [the.band] has gigged exclusively in North Wales and surrounding areas in England (Liverpool, Manchester, Chester, etc.) building a reputation and fan base. The band has appeared in support for The Damned, UK Subs, Spunge and many more. The album itself was recorded by the band in their own studio (see facts list below) with guest producer Ronnie Stone (Pixies, Sonic Youth, Mansun).

The debut digital single ‘Badman’ was released August 12, 2008 and entered at #7 on the Rock/Indie Bestsellers Chart @ Juno.co.uk, later peaking at #3.
Their debut single, Badman (video below) charted at #3 in the Rock / Indie Bestsellers over at Juno (buy the album there too).

ten facts about sexready mind control…

  1. All drum , gtr, bass, and vocal takes are all done in 1 take (except drop-ins for added sections or say we wanted to change the sonic value of a part.
  2. We recorded everything through a studio-diamond studio 8-2 mixing desk with NO compression at all and mixed everything (70s style) hands on the desk and make it all sound right before we record. this includes the whole kit in one well mixed sterio channel (lots of work) + the gtrs and bass are our actual amps (line6 sterio out) *no micing amps* (you hear what we hear) it’s called an honest sound.
  3. All gtrs and bass are played STOOD UP!!! WE DO NOT SIT DOWN at all to record slamming gtr parts. We also play it all live and actualy stomp effects in and out as we play, this includes gtr / bass solos.
  4. We scream at each other and throw out at least 3 times more material than we release.
  5. We had no idea how to engineer, produce, mix, master before we made this record.
  6. We use Cubase sx2 and wavelab on our £200 studio PC
  7. Every thing on this record means something.
  8. We pulled all-night studio shifts to make up for the fact that we had to work day jobs and figure out how to make stuff sound good (WTF is a 16 bit dither!?) that kind of thing.
  9. We deliberatly made the album low-fi so we didn’t sound too polished. (think iggy and the stooges and give them modern amps)
  10. We really hope people enjoy and “Get” this album, it’s our baby, born of our dismay at the so called music scene and all the fakers aswell as including songs about ourselves and the people we know. We wanted NO album fillers so every song is our favorate in it’s own way and we slam these tracks out live like we mean it, so we hope this conveys.
