Playlist Mix #41

Playlist Mix 41 featuring Sine

The 41st Playlist Mix lands almost in slow motion. For this week only your “in between” track changes out to some soft piano while all music is of a serious chillout nature.

Yes, winter is setting in, I’ve been downing a lot of tea for the day while working since first thing this morning and as a result, all I wanted to listen to and what you’ve got before you tonight is a healthy blend of chillout tunes from some of the finest chillout artists online.

There’s tracks this week from

  1. Climax – ‘My Favourite Place’
  2. Anji Bee – ‘Crossing The Pond’
  3. Solstice Coil – ‘Brilliance’
  4. Divasonic – ‘Processing…Luv (Return To Mono Mix)
  5. The Atomica Project – ‘Gravity’

Playlist Mix #34

Playlist Mix 34Well, well, well. Almost four months on (literally) since the last podcast (May 13th if you were counting or observing around the website) and the Playlist Mix hits show number 34, at long last. Of course at this stage we should likely be cruising into our 50s but no such luck – perhaps by the end of the year.

So yeah, the podcast is back, the mics are being dusted off, inboxes being cleared of music and snippets on bands and gigs and I’m slowly getting back into the swing of things.

Picking up exactly where things left off in May, the podcast returns with another six tracks from another six acts for you. This week you have the pleasure of listening to

  1. Saving J – ‘Kick Off’
  2. Supernova Scotia – ‘Oxen’
  3. South – ‘Wasted’
  4. Virginia Coalition – ‘Home This Year’
  5. Citizens Of Contrary Knowledge – ‘Complicated’
  6. Twilight Dementia – ‘Aftermath’

As always, if you want to get involved by sending in comments, audio comments tracks for the podcast, suggestions for bands or indeed your own preferred six tracks for a nominated podcast then please do email me, podcast@playlistmix.com. I’d love to hear from you.

Until next week, let’s settle back into the groove and enjoy PLM 34.

Playlist Mix #28

Playlist Mix #28 featuring AcrojunkHappy April Fools! The Playlist Mix is back again with another healthy dose of independent music for your listening pleasure. There’s tracks coming from Ireland, the UK and the US and given the theme of the day (being April Fools’ Day), I’ve decided to back a few foolish tracks into the podcast as well.

Well, foolish by name but certainly not by nature, if you take a listen! You’ve got a nice blend of rock and indie, peppered with a dash of 80’s rock influence (you’ll spot it). From clowns to dead men to lippy children, enjoy this week’s show.

Anyway, this week you’re treated to music from

Thanks again for choosing to download and listen to the Playlist Mix Podcast. If you’ve got any comments or thoughts then don’t be shy in sharing them. Drop an email to studio B by contacting podcast@playlistmix.com or hop over to the Playlist Mix MySpace and leave a note there.

Playlist Mix #26

Playlist Mix #26 featuring Big Bang RadioIf you’re living outside of Ireland you might be surprised to hear that we’re on a three day week! Yesterday was a public holiday, this Friday is a holy day so you’ve got to cram 5 days work into 3 before taking off again on for another weekend!

In my case, I’m cramming in the podcasts, back again with another Playlist Mix for you with six tracks from six acts around the world including stop offs in Florida and Chicago, up to Canada and over as far as Finland.

I also see the podcast subscriber numbers starting to rise a little bit – thank you very much :) If you do like what you hear then don’t be a stranger and instead why not let me know what you think? Drop me an email on podcast@playlistmix.com or better still – keep up to date with the podcast by subscribing to the RSS feed!

This week there’s music from

  • Low Sea Roar – ‘Black Sea’
  • Strive – ‘Away From Here’
  • Big Bang Radio – ‘Radio’
  • Valerian – ‘Soldier Of Fortune’
  • The Alrights – ‘City Underground’
  • Deerfoot – ‘Elves On Patrol’

Next week’s show (the “technical” anniversary show will be recorded over the Easter weekend for release early Tuesday evening – or at least that’s the plan for the moment). Until then… take it easy.

Playlist Mix #25

Playlist Mix #25 featuring Alesana with their track, ‘Ambrosia’The 25th Playlist Mix podcast has landed – that’s a half century of podcasts!

If I was releasing one a year that is and not one a week! Anyway, while the wind plays havoc with studio B, the 25th podcast has indeed landed and features another six tracks for your listening pleasure.

ProTools is giving grief tonight so there may be an audio update during the week but I reckon the podcast holds up for the moment!

For your listening pleasure this Tuesday you’ve got music from

  1. Jealousy Curve – ‘Until We Are Free’
  2. 27 Years – ‘Philophobia’
  3. Reemo – ‘Rushin’ Man’
  4. K.I.A. – ‘Rise Up’
  5. Vesta Varro – ‘Pyramid Clocks’
  6. Alesana – ‘Ambrosia’

Thanks once again to those of you who continue to listen to the podcast on a regular basis (I know it’s not me making all the downloads during the week!). If you’ve got something you would like to add, suggest, would like to leave a comment or just get in touch for any reason then don’t hesitate – contact the studio on podcast@playlistmix.com.

Lines, as they say, are now open.

Playlist Mix #18

Inner Surge, featured on Playlist Mix 18Back to podcasting on a Tuesday night and it’s the return of Playlist Mix with show #18, the third of the New Year (and of the month).

Can you believe that Heath Ledger was found dead earlier? There was I thinking we’d have a sweet legacy in the Joker for the new Batman movie, maybe a reappearance in a third movie, but it’s never going to happen now.

Mad really. Just over three years older than myself as well, it’s nuts.

Anyway, this week’s podcast features a blend of downtempo, industrial, rock, reggae and metal tunes – hell of a mix when you think about it. Plus there’s also the Inner Surge CD giveaway where you can bag yourself a copy of of their brand new album ‘An Offering’.

But, the question is in the podcast. I’ll be fair and if you want to get to the question, it’s near the end of the podcast. Answers on a postcard to podcast@playlistmix.com. That’s an old TV joke… send an email with the answer! You get the drift.

Here’s this week’s playlist

  1. 01:21 – Christophe Goze – ‘Our Secrets’
  2. 06:02 – Nigmatic – ‘Amplified’
  3. 10:41 – Citizen Six – ‘Don’t Go To…’
  4. 12:42 – Lady White Noise – ‘Well Enough Unknown’
  5. 19:16 – Mighty Mystic – ‘Heart Of A Lion’
  6. 26:27 – Inner Surge – ‘Halliburton Piggies’

Don’t forget – if you enjoy the show, let me know what you think by leaving a comment, or dropping by the MySpace. You can also email tracks and band news to podcast@playlistmix.com for inclusion in future shows.

The Inner Surge competition closes midnight, Monday January 28th and the CD will be posted anywhere in the world. Envelope is standing by, all it needs is a name!

Playlist Mix #16

Playlist Mix 16 featuring A Thousand Miles From HomeOh it’s good to be back – the first of the 2008 series of podcasts from PlaylistMix.com has arrived.

After a healthy (as in time, certainly not by food or drink consumption) Christmas break and a two week pod-break, it’s time to get right back on the horse and on with the sixth show.

There’s the usual eclectic bag of tunes to pick from this week, going from rock to indie, some trip hop electronica and more with acts coming from Ireland, the UK, the US and beyond. You might also notice that the podcast has a new look website to go with the first podcast of the year as well. A few tweaks to make yet but I hope you like it.

Don’t be afraid to get in touch either – I’m always eager for some feedback on the shows and choice of music. If you’ve someone you’d like to suggest or maybe you want to submit your own music – either fill out the contact form on the site or drop an email my way to podcast@playlistmix.com, simple!

Anyway, this week you’re getting tracks from

  1. 00:24 – New York Fashion Week – ‘Dear Spartacus’
  2. 05:50 – 1000 Miles From Home – ‘The Man’
  3. 10:50 – British Sea Power – ‘No Lucifer’
  4. 14:14 – Heroin Skinny – ‘Broken Parts’
  5. 20:09 – Lunar Theory – ‘You Talk Of Angels’
  6. 25:30 – Feels Like Friday – ‘A Long Way’

Inner Surge Release ‘An Offering’

Inner SurgeInner Surge featured on Playlist Mix #11 towards the end of November with the track ‘No Profit In The Cure’. Have followed the band since the podcast first started (Inner Surge also one of the first acts to get in touch with the podcast), it’s nice to see the release of ‘An Offering’, available now from CDBaby.com and InnerSurge.com.

I bagged myself a copy of the CD today, or at least placed the order for the physical CD. My suggestion is order directly from InnerSurge.com – free shipping. If you’re not into the physical CD itself, you can still make a digital purchase of the album, but to get the 13 track CD, with free shipping, for only CA$10, you can’t go wrong!

Here’s the blurb from the band’s site…

“An Offering” is now available in the “Store” section. No shipping is charged from the official www.innersurge.com store. If you do not want a physical copy of the CD, tracks are available for digital purchase in the “Music” section. Information on the new CD is below.

INNER SURGE – “An Offering” (2008 Cyclone Records/Overthrow Promotions)

3) Maggots & Liars
4) From the Depths
5) Stimulus Response
6) Tamisra
7) Crossing the Line
8) Halliburton Piggies
9) A Great Distance
10) Tools for the Escape
11) Light a Fire
12) Interahamwe
13) Limb from Limb

CD ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS:
To those who helped this album come to light; Our fans and everyone who has listened to or contacted us from across the globe, All of our families who have supported us, Shaun Friesen & Free Zen Design, Casey Lewis & Echo Base Studios, Chrys G, all radio shows, podcasts, magazines, websites and individuals who have supported and promoted this band – our heartfelt thanks goes out to you.

To those who resisted or ignored us, the radio who worship the mundane and call it “alternative”, the idol-style voting contests who promote shit music and waste everyone’s time, the bands who place more importance on makeup, choreography and personality cults than songwriting or meaning, the “scene over music” crowd who destroy the individual thinker and praise the mindless herd, and all those who strive to suck the lifeblood out of everything good, Enjoy.

So support independant acts! If you like the music you hear on the podcast, why not reach out and buy a band’s EP or CD. Nine times out of ten the quality is better and the price is cheaper!
