No Podcast Again This Week – Here’s Why

I’m a genius.

Of course, I say that in the most sarcastic way possible. Having missed the Playlist Mix last week due to crazy time constraints, I arrived home after a weekend away to a phone call that went something like…

Ken, are these two bags here yours?

That was all I needed. The fact is, the two bags were mine. The had gone with me at the weekend as I was performing up the country on Saturday night, taking all vocal mics, studio mics, all my small cables, headphones and laptop charger (for my currently dead laptop and inaccessible ProTools).

Being the genius that I am, I embarked on my 6:30am drive home on Monday morning and got the phone call when I hit Kilkenny informing me I had left the afore mentioned bags behind me. How I missed them I’ll never know.

Alas, it appears that not tonight, but possibly tomorrow night will be the earliest I can retrieve said bags, the bags hopefully arriving in time for the Sound System Podcast with KilkennyMusic.com.

Thankfully, there’s a bank holiday weekend ahead so I can assure you that normal transmission will in fact resume next Tuesday with show #34 at long last!

Sorry it’s been a quiet month so far.

Listen back to the previous show… (#33)

Playlist Mix #27

Playlist Mix #27 featuring British Sea PowerThe Playlist Mix returns with another weekly dose of independent music for you and it’s a semi-special podcast as I’m marking the anniversary of the first show on PlaylistMix.com. You can listen back to that show here (featured the likes of Atomic Tangerine, Infotourist, Spinecar and more) or download it if you’re brave enough, the first podcast airing one year ago today.

But, me being me I’m still counting the revival of the podcast as the official anniversary so I’ll see you in October for some cake, that’s when the whole thing took off.

Anyway, this week there’s music from a selection of new and old acts with all but one act having featured previously on the show. You might be getting old acts but you’re getting new music!

There’s tunes from

If you’re a new or existing listener then why not let me know what you think? Drop an email to the studio at podcast@playlistmix.com or leave a note on the Playlist Mix MySpace. Don’t be shy!

Back in a week with six more tracks for you.

Playlist Mix #23

Playlist Mix 23 featuring A Band Called QuinnBang on time this week comes the 23rd Playlist Mix podcast. Six more new tracks from six international acts once again with music coming from the UK, US, Canada and Ireland. There’s also the return of two of my favourite acts to the podcast – A Band Called Quinn and Heroin Skinny.

You’ll get to hear the title track from the new ABCQ EP which launches on Thursday March 6th at the Apple Store in Glasgow as well as five other top-drawer songs from independent artists.

This week you’re treated to music from

Here’s to hoping you enjoy the latest offering from the podcast! Many thanks to those of you who listen on a weekly or regular basis and to those of you who are completely new to the podcast, welcome!

Still working through the email submissions though I did manage to get through THREE of them for this week’s show! Keep the tunes coming by emailing the studio on podcast@playlistmix.com.

Back again next week!

Playlist Mix #22

Playlist Mix 22 featuring Eagle SeagullA day late, a buck short…. well in fairness, it’s not THAT late, about 10 hours or so but the Playlist Mix returns once again with a weekly dose of independent music for your listening pleasure.

I’m chalking the delay down to a radio appearance last night cutting into my recording time, that and the fact that the house (and subsequently Studio B) was an absolute ice box.

Flash forward to Wednesday morning and the show gets recorded with the aid of several cups of tea and the world is back to normal!

This week you’ve got the pleasure of listening to

  • 01:23 – Kole – ‘The Weakness’
  • 06:25 – Paradise – ‘In Circles’
  • 09:56 – Flee The Seen – ‘Wire Tap Out’
  • 12:38 – Faze – ‘All You Need’
  • 17:49 – Pulling Thorns – ‘Question Marks & Turn Signals’
  • 23:08 – Eagle Seagull – ‘Your Beauty Is A Knife I Turn In My Throat’

As always, if you’d like to comment on the podcast, submit news, gig dates, new music and the likes then drop me an email to podcast@playlistmix.com or find me on MySpace by visiting myspace.com/playlistpodcast.

Until next week…. enjoy!

Inner Surge Release ‘An Offering’

Inner SurgeInner Surge featured on Playlist Mix #11 towards the end of November with the track ‘No Profit In The Cure’. Have followed the band since the podcast first started (Inner Surge also one of the first acts to get in touch with the podcast), it’s nice to see the release of ‘An Offering’, available now from CDBaby.com and InnerSurge.com.

I bagged myself a copy of the CD today, or at least placed the order for the physical CD. My suggestion is order directly from InnerSurge.com – free shipping. If you’re not into the physical CD itself, you can still make a digital purchase of the album, but to get the 13 track CD, with free shipping, for only CA$10, you can’t go wrong!

Here’s the blurb from the band’s site…

“An Offering” is now available in the “Store” section. No shipping is charged from the official www.innersurge.com store. If you do not want a physical copy of the CD, tracks are available for digital purchase in the “Music” section. Information on the new CD is below.

INNER SURGE – “An Offering” (2008 Cyclone Records/Overthrow Promotions)

CD TRACKLISTING:

2) The Empire
3) Maggots & Liars
4) From the Depths
5) Stimulus Response
6) Tamisra
7) Crossing the Line
8) Halliburton Piggies
9) A Great Distance
10) Tools for the Escape
11) Light a Fire
12) Interahamwe
13) Limb from Limb

CD ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS:
To those who helped this album come to light; Our fans and everyone who has listened to or contacted us from across the globe, All of our families who have supported us, Shaun Friesen & Free Zen Design, Casey Lewis & Echo Base Studios, Chrys G, all radio shows, podcasts, magazines, websites and individuals who have supported and promoted this band – our heartfelt thanks goes out to you.

To those who resisted or ignored us, the radio who worship the mundane and call it “alternative”, the idol-style voting contests who promote shit music and waste everyone’s time, the bands who place more importance on makeup, choreography and personality cults than songwriting or meaning, the “scene over music” crowd who destroy the individual thinker and praise the mindless herd, and all those who strive to suck the lifeblood out of everything good, Enjoy.

So support independant acts! If you like the music you hear on the podcast, why not reach out and buy a band’s EP or CD. Nine times out of ten the quality is better and the price is cheaper!

New Look For PlaylistMix.com

2008 brings with it new beginnings and fresh changes and for PlaylistMix.com, it’s no different.

I like it, think it’s certainly more in keeping with the trend of the podcast as well.

On another ‘New Year’ note, I hope everyone had a great Christmas and New Year over the festive period. We’re all back to work at this stage and back in the studio this week after the Christmas break so podcast #16 should be winging it’s way to you shortly. Will 2008 see PLM make it to the fantastic number 50 mark? Who knows!

Technically, the podcast turns one year old in March of this year, so let’s get that far first. Don’t forget that if you would like to have your music featured on the podcast, drop an email to podcast@playlistmix.com – one MP3 per email and if you can attach a brief bio as well with links to your own website or MySpace then please do!

Playlist Mix #14

Playlist Mix #14Playlist Mix 14 lands with six more bands for your listening pleasure varying between electronica, rock and a sweet instrumental by The Bathtub Sophist.

With another 30 minutes of music, this is the second last podcast of 2007 with one due to air Christmas week as a ‘best of’ with my favourite tunes from the last 14 podcasts.

This week features

Don’t forget if you would like to submit YOUR music, drop me a line on podcast [at] playlistmix [dot] com, drop over to the MySpace or contact me through the site.
