Sundays come around too regularly at this stage of the proceedings. We’re just off two back-to-back short weeks, or at least I think they were back-to-back short weeks anyway as the days appear to be flying. We hit the 19th of April for 2009 and the 54th Playlist Mix podcast. While next week’s show is going to feature a selection (says he in hope) of Northern Irish acts, this week sees a blend of tracks from Ireland with some of the featured acts for the month along with talent from both sides of the water.
- Valentine Black – A Song From The Underground
- Dogs Bollocks – Rebel Reload
- The Free Design – Bubbles (Buy at Amazon MP3)
- Beirut – My Night With The Prostitute From Marseille (Buy at Rhapsody)
- Ebo – Paper Planes
- Diarmuid Comerford – Skit Show
While I’m here, I should also plug a competition I’m involved in running, Busker 2009. One of my other hats with Kilkenny Music sees the promoting of a lot of music, at every level, including street-level. Busker 2009 kicked off yesterday with acts competing for a prize each da of 200 Euro. From tomorrow onwards, we’re looking for people to vote for their favourite act out of three from yesterday, the voting available here at KilkennyMusic.com.

Sunday rolls right ’round again so it’s time for another helping of the Playlist Mix. It’s also Easter Sunday here (and pretty much everywhere else for that matter), time to stuff yourself with chocolate, enjoy an extra day or two out of the office and generally chill out. That’s what’s been happening here in the past few days, a lot of chilling out. It might also be worth mentioning again at this time that if you’re not already following the Playlist Mix on Twitter, now might be a good time to do so. Regular listeners will know I wear all kinds of musical hats, but one particular startup I’m involved in has built up a nice collection of CDs to give away to listeners of the podcast and followers on Twitter – if you’re not in, you can’t win, so follow us here today.
This week’s mix features tracks from
- Hundred Year Storm – ‘Look To The Skys’
- Star Crossed Enemies – ‘Imagine Me As I Am’
- Pearse McGloughlin (Walkperson) – ‘Partings Day One’
- Max Greenwood – ‘Faces In The Water’
- The Velodrome – ‘Fascination On Easter Sunday’
- Hero In Error – ‘Under My Sky’
Until next week and show 54,
Enjoy.

Star Crossed Enemies are one of the four featured acts for April 2009.
For more on Star Crossed Enemies, visit Star Crossed Enemies on MySpace.
Star Crossed Enemies are a semi-acoustic pop duo, gigging around Ireland and giving away free biscuits to anybody that will watch them. Live, they both play guitar and drums, and they both sing. Brian does the ‘oooooooh’s and Gary does the ‘ahhhhhhh’s. It just works well that way. Many of their shows are acoustic. Their first CD, beautifully titled ‘D.E.P’ is sold at all of their shows, it’s only 2 euro. The band have played shows in front of 100 people and shows in front of 3 people… “it’s a fun ride”.
A few things have been said about Star Crossed Enemies, this one makes the lads smile -
“Bloody fantastic! Beautiful music. A band we can expect huge things from in 2009″ – Alan Jacques, Green and Live.

Chucky’s River are one of the four featured acts for April 2009.
For more on Chucky’s River, visit Chucky’s River on MySpace.
Chucky’s River come surging into the musical world that is 2009 after a year of creating, shaping and fine tuning their determined ensemble. The charismatic personalities and diverse musical attitudes of these three musicians are amalgamated to form this driving musical force. Lead singer Comerford set out on a short lived solo project in 2007 with percussionist Conor Stafford. They played over 50 shows including a mini London tour at the end of 07’.
The acoustic circuit, whilst providing an important insight into the performance of songs in their most humble form, resulted in a yearning amid the duo to bring their music to another level. The electric guitars were dusted off and the full drum kit polished up. The hunt for a bass player with the right vision and playing prowess began.
Cupie arrived with his resonant and punchy basslines to bring Chucky’s River to fruition and an intense and committed song writing regime was adhered to during the band’s primordial year of rehearsal. A wide variance of style is injected into the overall sound. Unconventional structure is not feared. The sheer driving nature of the songs coupled with the real life observational lyrics of Comerford make the band’s music both compelling and arousing.
Ultimately, the band felt they had to be ready before the results of their hard work could be unveiled.
That time has come.

Last month saw the featured artists in the form of The Very Most, Heritage Centre, The Funeral Suits and Serial Twin bag some extra plays on the podcast.
This month it’s the turn of ODi, Star Crossed Enemies, Valentine Black and Chucky’s River, four UK/Irish acts who will get a few additional plays on the podcast over the course of April and plugs throughout the web.
The latest podcast, Playlist Mix 52 also goes out this week. I would love to say it was found under a pile of Wonderland and Wasteland episodes, much like the fabled lost pilot to Clerks, but I’d by lying. I would also like to say that it was supposed to air in Amsterdam last weekend (hence the gap), but it didn’t. It also didn’t make the web on Tuesday so it’s been held over until tonight.
It’s April, it’s the first podcast of the month and PLM 52 is up around 10pm GMT tonight.

We’re trucking on past the 50 mark and bring you Playlist Mix 51 with another six tracks from another six fine acts. Outside of the music world it’s been a great weekend here in Ireland – United lost, Chelsea lost, Liverpool hammered Aston Villa, Ireland won the Grand Slam, Bernard Dunne took a world boxing title so the podcast comes to you this weekend on a bit of a high.
I also made it along to the launch gig for Myp Et Jeep’s Blood Is Not Enough debut album release in Kilkenny tonight, the album hitting the shops this coming weekend, so there’s a track for you there in tonight’s mix.
All in all you’ve got music from
- The Aftermath – All I Want Is For You To Be Happy
- Reemo – Turn
- Deerfoot – Hyperion
- The Lions Mane – DNA 4
- 4D Model – Rethink
- Myp Et Jeep – Beware Of Sound
Next week’s podcast comes from Amsterdam, should be an interesting one. If you want to get in touch, drop me a line on Twitter or via email to podcast@playlistmix.com.
Until next week,
Enjoy.

The fiftieth (five-oh) podcast hits the web a few hours later than expected, but in making up for it, there’s an addition nine (count em) tracks for you as the Playlist Mix marks its fiftieth show with fifteen tracks for your listening pleasure. Tied up in the mix this week is a healthy balance of acts from Ireland, the UK and US. There’s also a lot less chatter this week as it can be tricky (as one finds out) in cramming fifteen tracks into an hour of listening – oh the fun that was had in coming up with the mix last night! Actually, looking back at the mix, the Irish have the serious advantage here with 11 of 15 tracks coming from homegrown acts.
Don’t forget to check out the four featured bands for this month – The Very Most, The Funeral Suits, Serial Twin and Heritage Centre.
The playlist for this week brings tracks from
- Hybrasil – We’ve Got Music
- God Blind Scientists – Talk Of The Town
- Gum – Can’t Tell A Heart
- Nell Bryden – Late Night Call
- Rilo Kiley – With Arms Outstretched
- Ian Whitty & The Exchange – City Friend
- Super Extra Bonus Party – Everything Flows
- Tenaka – Open Up
- Flinders – Corners First, Middle Later
- Serial Twin – Burn It All
- Mumblin’ Deaf Ro – The Hero Is A Graduate
- Vesta Varro – Blue Mirror Boy
- Dirty Epics – The Cure
- New York Fashion Week – Dear Spartacus
- Myp Et Jeep – Enough Is Enough
Until next week and show 51, enjoy the Playlist Mix. If you want to drop me a line, please do, you can email podcast@playlistmix.com or follow Playlist Mix on Twitter.
